Aysha Bryant: My Working Week at MPAD

This week we’ve had the pleasure of Aysha’s company, a second year journalism student from Falmouth University, at MPAD Towers. In the short time she’s been here she’s got fully involved with all our projects and even managed to survive the ever-growing tea round. Below you’ll find exactly what she got up to in her week with MPAD.

Every student needs work experience. Yeah ok not being paid isn’t ideal, but the upsides counteract that. It looks great on your CV and you can gain valuable skills that makes you more employable when it comes to graduating (because sadly, we won’t be students forever).

So what have I been up to? With my time at mpad, I’ve had my own little space and quietly pottering on with whatever job I’ve been given. Although shy and quiet at the start of the week, I feel like I’ve picked things up quickly and become vocal, because I’m not actually a quiet person.

I’ve picked things up and have learnt how an office works. I’ve been given jobs that actually seem to matter and useful to their work and projects. It’s not all about making coffee (I haven’t actually made any because I don’t like tea or coffee, and yes I know I’m weird).

I’ve been using my imagination, putting in to practice what I’ve learnt on my course. I’ve been drawing pictures that help come up with photograph ideas for social media posts, writing short, concise but engaging copy that’s actually been used, writing a news release for local media, and bucket loads of research. Research has been the biggest chunk of time but it’s been an important part of my tasks because otherwise I’d have no clue what I’m doing and I’d be useless to the team here.

I’ve really enjoyed my short time here, and I’m not just saying that. Sometimes you wonder what you’re getting in to £27,000 worth of debt for, but when you go out in to the real world for however long, it all becomes clear. Being with MPAD has given me a good insight to communications and it looks like a fun and rewarding area to go in to.
